In recent years, far-left leaders have exploited mass shootings to attack not only gun rights, but also those who extend thoughts and prayers to victims, wittingly or unwittingly furthering the ends of mass shooters who have published manifestos declaring their intent to escalate the American gun control debate into civil war.

Left-wing extremists’ rhetorical association between gun control and religious suppression reveals how even America’s enemies recognize that gun ownership is not primarily a political issue, but part of a larger cultural debate. Historically, Americans have held that God entrusts us with firearms to protect and care for ourselves, our families, our communities, and our nation. As such, “The” FourG Nation must uphold the four pillars of American life: God, Gas, Guns, & Glory.

Firearms as a Tool of Stewardship

The biblical principle of stewardship, first advanced at the beginning of the Old Testament (Genesis 1:28) and echoed throughout the New Testament (Luke 12:42, etc.) tasks us with wisely managing the gifts God gives us. This includes taking responsibility for the safety of our own body as the temple of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:19) and the welfare of those God entrusts to us (Ephesians 5:25-31). In this light, guns should be seen as instruments of protection, not aggression, ensuring the peace of our families and communities.

Both English law and the American Founding Fathers recognized the fundamental right for citizens to “bear arms in defense of themselves and the state,” as the Supreme Court’s historical review found in District of Columbia v. Heller.

The Moral Duty of Responsibility

As the Second Amendment phrase “well-regulated” indicates, responsible gun ownership requires training, discipline, and respect for firearms. Any professional firearm training course starts with basics, such as how to safely handle and clean a gun so you don’t harm yourself or others, and introductory courses such as the NRA Basic Personal Protection in the Home Course, which covers legal aspects of self-defense. Taking responsibility to learn these fundamentals discourages reckless use of weapons and promotes righteous defense only when morally and legally required.

Family Protection as a Spiritual Calling

Scripture tasks us with caring for our households (Deuteronomy 6:7, Colossians 3:18-21) and being responsible citizens, (Romans 13:1-7, 1 Peter 2:13-17), making guardianship of the family and community a spiritual calling. On the American frontier, communities depended on armed citizen militias for protection, and firearms doubled as essential tools for hunting, as illustrated by the popularity of the long rifle throughout the 18th and 19th centuries. From America’s founding to today, responsible gun ownership has been born of love of family, community, and country, not fear.

Constitutional Blessings and Generational Duty

In the context of the Declaration of Independence and Constitution, the Second Amendment enshrines God-given rights intended to be safeguarded for posterity. Responsible gun ownership preserves freedom for future generations. Exercising good stewardship over firearms today helps ensure the blessings of liberty for our descendants tomorrow.
