Faith in the Workplace: Why Public Christian Expression Should Be Protected
In recent years, freedom to express Christian faith at work has faced growing challenges, as educational institutions, businesses, and government agencies have questioned — or even banned — prayer and other public declarations of belief.
A high-profile example of this is the court case Kennedy v. Bremerton School District. In 2022, Coach Joe Kennedy appealed to the U.S. Supreme Court after Bremerton High School, in Washington state, disciplined him for kneeling in prayer on the football field after games.
Although Kennedy won, this case highlights the ongoing tension between public faith and workplace culture, reminding us that victories for religious freedom must still be vigilantly protected.
At “The” FourG Nation, we stand on the values of GOD (faith), Glory (freedom), and liberty — championing the right to openly live and express Christian faith without fear of punishment or exclusion.
The Constitutional Right to Express Faith
Under the First Amendment, which states, “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof…” American citizens are guaranteed freedom of religion — not freedom from it.
This freedom doesn’t stop at the church door: Courts have upheld many expressions of faith in public spaces, including workplaces, without governmental retribution or restraint.
Why Visible Faith Matters
Acts like prayer, reading the Bible, or other forms of Christian expression are not “performative” for believers — they’re a part of our identity. Public professions of faith inspire honesty, strengthen moral accountability, and embolden courage.
A society that openly honors GOD is more likely to uphold truth, justice, and compassion. Daniel’s story in the lion’s den (Daniel 6) illustrates this vividly. The young prophet refused to stop praying despite a royal decree. GOD delivered him unharmed, leading King Darius to proclaim in Daniel 6:26:
“I make a decree that in every dominion of my kingdom men must fear and tremble before the God of Daniel.”
Workplaces Benefit From People of Faith
Studies show that faith in the workplace leads to stronger ethics and greater community trust. Christian employees often bring humility, a heart for service, and a clear sense of purpose to their work.
Faith creates bonds that uplift whole teams and communities, fostering collaboration and a supportive environment where people thrive together.
Censorship’s Slippery Slope — How FourG Nation Can Respond
Censorship can seem minor at first, but it’s a slippery slope that can quickly spiral out of control. For if prayer, as in the case of Coach Joe Kennedy, is silenced, what happens next?
When expressions of faith, such as in workplaces, are censored under the banner of “neutrality,” it often masks the rise of secularism as the new imposed religion.
So, what can we as FourG Nation do in response?
Don’t be silent. Stand firm for our right to express our faith at work and other public forums. Teach our children that they don’t need to set their Christian beliefs aside at the door. Finally, support leaders and policies that defend religious liberty.
By doing so, we help ensure that faith remains an essential and open part of our work life and community.
