Gun Control Laws Haven’t Stopped Leftist Political Violence

The Left’s Gun Control Laws Haven’t Stopped Them From Murdering Conservatives and Christians Like Charlie Kirk
By Rachel Alexander | @Rach_IC
Turning Point USA co-founder and CEO Charlie Kirk was assassinated on Wednesday while speaking at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah. A gunman fatally shot the 31-one-year old Christian father in the neck while he was appearing as part of his “American Comeback Tour.” This appears to be part of a disturbing trend, radical progressives shooting conservatives and Christians. Yet despite Democrats’ denunciation of gun crimes, demanding and getting stricter gun control laws passed, their gun control efforts have not stopped their radicals from obtaining guns and targeting the right.
The shooter, who is still at large, reportedly had Antifa and transgender images engraved on his weapon or ammunition, and shot Kirk after he started talking about mass shootings by transgenders. Kirk, a strong Christian, emphasized that many shooters, including transgenders, obtain guns legally despite red flags — which are supposed to be prevented by gun control states that have passed red flag laws.

Three transgenders recently attacked Christians in mass shootings. Robert “Robin” Westman, a 23-year-old transgender, carried out a shooting at the Annunciation Catholic Church in Minneapolis, Minnesota, during a youth service in August. The attack killed two children and injured 21 others. A manifesto and digital writings from Westman’s devices revealed explicit anti-Christian and anti-conservative sentiments.
He wrote regarding Christians, “These f***ing Christians with their crosses and prayers think they own morality. Time to show them hell on earth.” Regarding conservatives, he wrote, “MAGA cultists and their orange god [referring to Donald Trump] want to erase us trans folks. They preach ‘family values’ while denying my existence — I’ll make them pay.” He had a gun with “kill Trump” etched on it.
Despite his location in a progressive state with strict gun laws, and having a mental health report written about him seven years prior to the shooting, Westman still purchased his firearms legally, passing a background check. Minneapolis’s violent crime rate is among the highest for mid-sized cities across the U.S., with 80 percent of Minneapolis murders gun-related.
Transgender Audrey Hale, known as the Covenant killer due to fatally shooting three children and three adults at The Covenant School in Nashville, Tennessee, said in her diaries that she despised Christians and white people. The former student at the school wrote prior to her 2023 shooting, “Wanna kill all you little crickers,” followed by “Bunch of little f****** w/ your white privlages f*** you f******.” “Crickers” is a slang term for Christians.
Hale legally purchased her firearms, despite a background check and having an extensive mental health history.
Transgender Genesse Ivonne Moreno, a progressive activist who ranted about “white Christians” and “religious bigots,” opened fire at worshippers at a Houston megachurch in 2024, injuring two including a child. Moreno legally purchased her firearm, passing a background check, despite a long history of severe mental health issues, erratic behavior and prior interactions with law enforcement. Her family noted that her gender dysphoria was intertwined with her mental health deterioration. She also had prior arrests, including a 2010 assault charge.
James Hodgkinson, a Bernie Sanders supporter, shot at Republican congressional members practicing for a charity baseball game in Alexandria, Virginia in 2017. He asked if attendees were Republicans before opening fire, yelling, “This is for health care!” He severely injured House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-LA-01) and injured five others.
Hodgkinson legally purchased his firearms in a state with some of the strictest gun control laws, Illinois. Despite red flag laws that require additional local permits, restrict concealed carry, and a new assault weapons ban, Chicago has the highest gun homicide rate in the nation for large cities.
Floyd Corkins, a progressive activist, opened fire at the Family Research Council office in Washington, D.C. in 2012. He objected to the organization’s position against LGBT activism, bringing Chick-fil-A sandwiches to “kill the people in the building” with plans to smear them with symbols.
Corkins purchased his firearms legally in Virginia, passing a background check. Virginia has relatively strict gun control laws, including state-specific measures like universal background checks and red flag laws.
While the left points to racists and antisemites who commit mass shootings as evidence conservatives also engage in similar violence, conservatives do not advocate for racism. That racist fringe is not conservative, but generally mentally ill individuals likely instigated by rhetoric from the radical left and the mainstream media. The far left, including radical Islamic activists, stir up hatred against Jews.
States with strict gun control laws, such as Maryland and New York, generally have higher per capita gun homicide rates than states with looser laws such as Vermont and Wyoming. In the UK, which banned handguns in 1997, homicides increased to higher than pre-ban levels when adjusted for population. A 2019 RAND Corporation review found “inconclusive” evidence that UK-style bans reduce overall violence, citing substitution of other weapons.
The failure of gun control to stop violence against the right is waking Americans up to the Deep State’s role in these shootings. The politicians passing gun control laws have had the statistics now going back for years showing that these measures don’t work, but they continue to demand them, fully aware they do not protect minorities in inner cities from violence nor conservatives targeted by deranged progressives. With the help of the Fourth Estate — the progressives who dominate the mainstream media, pushing narratives that prey upon the mentally ill, spurring them into violence — the Deep State is able to continue its diabolical, homicidal work. The assassination of Kirk, arguably the third most powerful individual for conservatives in the U.S. after President Donald Trump and Elon Musk, who was on his way to becoming president, will serve as a rallying cry for patriots to dismantle the Deep State.
